But peculiar problems keep cropping up, almost as if someone was trying to shut down the commune! Then, on a secret trip to an abandoned gold mine, Julie stumbles on a mysterious message that hints at long-lost treasure. Julie is desperate to find it, before danger closes in on Gold Moon Ranch.

“I STILL CAN’T believe it!” Mrs. Albright said as she and Julie crept through heavy traffic on their way out of San Francisco. They edged toward the Bay Bridge, which would take them across the bay, then north to the mountains.
“I know.” Julie snapped her fingers. “Long-lost relatives out of thin air!”

He turned abruptly. “Now, let me see what’s holding up your order.”
A few moments later, Dolores returned with Julie’s cheeseburger and fries. She set the food on the table and gave Julie a smile. “I couldn’t help hearing what you said. It will be nice to have another girl at the ranch for a while.” Then she leaned in and lowered her voice. “I also heard what Mr. Coker said! He has as much chance of buying Gold Moon Ranch as I have of…of keeping this stupid job. We’ll never sell, no matter how desperate we get!”
