Another group—those who have been in residential treatment and then return to their communities in more stable condition—not only find support, but often provide support within peer counseling communities: classes in yoga, art therapy, music, etc. Peer support can be especially useful in helping those who have decided to stop using psychiatric medications. This process—often lasting months—can be a physical and emotional ordeal, with patients feeling unable to sleep, delusional, fearful and apprehensive about fitting in. Peers can be available for emotional support to the person in withdrawal and possibly be part of a team support system, with health professionals monitoring the medical aspect of the withdrawal
