Glenn O’Brien developed a devoted following through his decades-long columns in Interview, ArtForum, and GQ. O’Brien was the first editor of Interview magazine, and wrote some of the first important features on Jean Michel Basquiat, Christopher Wool, Richard Prince. His genre-breaking and defining public access show TV Party featured Debbie Harry, Chris Stein (Blondie), and Basquiat as the house band. He worked extensively in advertising, naming perfumes, and writing delirious and serial commercials for Chanel, starring Scarlett Johansson, Brad Pitt, and Matthew McConaughey, amongst others. His book How to be Man (Rizzoli) sold over 55,000 copies, many in specialty stores. With an introduction by Jonathan Lethem this volume is intended to re-introduce Glenn O’Brien as one of the most interesting, astute writers of his era. The book will launch with a party and media support from many of the artists and musicians that O’Brien supported in his writing.
