About the Authors
Grace E. Terrell, MD, MMM, FACP, CPE, FACPE, is general internist and Chief Executive Officer of Cornerstone Health Care, P.A. a multi-specialty medical group in the Piedmont Triad region of North Carolina with more than 300 providers and 1500 employees who practice at ten hospitals. Dr. Terrell has served in many community leadership roles, including the High Point Regional Health System Board of Trustees and the Guilford County Economic Workforce Development Board. In 2011 she serves on the boards of the American College of Physician Executives, High Point United Way, and High Point Chamber of Commerce, and is a Commissioner for the Certifying Commission of Health Information Technology. Dr. Terrell received her bachelor of arts in English and religion from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1983. Her MD is from Duke University in 1989 with internship in pathology at Duke in 1989. Dr. Terrell completed her residency in internal medicine at N.C. Baptist Hospital in 1993 and Master’s in Medical Management from Carnegie Mellon University in 2000.

• Emerging Models and Innovations — A number of changes regarding new models of care and innovation are addressed throughout this book. The most pressing initiatives involve new models for care delivery along with innovative changes in medical education and the accelerated pace of technological advancements. Some of the care delivery model initiatives include patient- centered medical homes, accountable care organizations, and clinical integration programs. Payment reforms will transition the industry away from volume-driven are delivery to a pay-for-performance and value-driven model such as bundled and global payment structures.
