"That’s good," said Pilgrim. "I’m glad. But I guess we won’t let you down on this steep hillside. Listen! What was that?"

"We must get out of here before another bunch of cattle comes," he said sternly. That’s the way it used to be when I lived up this way. Are you quite sure you are all right?" He gave her another intense look.
