Extraordinary Difficult, if not impossible, Life Situations
Marie-Louise von Franz
Like Hildegard, we are all in a sense, “feathers on the Breathe of God”. If young men or women get caught up in living the archetype of the puer or the puella eternal, then unless they begin to study the psychological phenomena, they will be living out the archetype. This area is written of extensively by Marie-Louise Von Franz. If they should be so fortunate to begin to have psychological insight into the programming, i.e., the archetype, which is running or scripting their lives; then, they will hopefully have the opportunity to script their lives as they wish to fashion their lives. One sees many people who seem to be caught in living out the “puer” or “puella”, as the case may be, at an unconscious level. One answer to any kind of social discontent is perhaps to study the spiritual aspects relative to that situation rather than focusing only on the apparent and the material. To access that power which can totally change or reverse any situation. Pope Francis seemed to make reference to this phenomenon which does not lead us to the truth of our existence, which some are interested in; and I think we are probably here to discern; but most likely to delusion and unhappiness; a road too often unnecessarily taken. Hildegard of Bingen would appear to have found the truth of the spiritual dimension a thousand years ago; “seek and ye shall find” The Ego

Teilhard was writing over 50 years ago. One wonders if Teilhard would have imagined a Jesuit in St. Peter’s Chair. It is extraordinary to take on such a difficult job; at, if I may say, such a level of maturity. One would hope for some rest at a certain point; it would seem that Pope Benedict did the right thing. Unless God is calling you, particularly for such a difficult job, and one knows the necessary energy will be supplied; no matter what your age; and which of course He will do; then, and only then is it possible. I think of the not so healthy 85 yr. old women given the strength to life a car off her grandchild

This is not the kind of book I thought I would write when I began to think of being a writer; but apparently God had other plans; and perhaps He will not necessarily let you know what He intends right away. Eventually, yes, but perhaps not from the beginning; and in fact it is possible that what He has decided to do may never make rational sense to the mechanical mind; but could fit in perfectly, from the perspective of His Plans.
It’s the 4th of July weekend and all I really want to do is work on this little notebook and maybe make a dent what I want to express and explore. It’s great because in the summer so many people leave NYC for the weekend; NY is still crowded but somewhat less so and there is a holiday feel about the city; people are more relaxed and many seem quite happy. So, its fun to just walk about and do my shopping and with the laptop I can write anywhere; so it turns out to be the restaurants I frequent and coffee “shops”.

This wonderful Church; I can remember approaching the stairs leading to the Gesu, with a kind of awe and expectation; here a place so historic, approached just like I am doing by thousands upon thousands of the faithful since St. Ignatius built it. As I reached the top step, a nun was coming out and smiled like nuns mostly seem to do and held the door; and I smiled and perhaps we both knew to some extent what the experience was about.
Inside the Gesu is magnificent and wonderful; the ceiling has a very famous painting by Giovanni Galli; which seems almost to invite one to ascend to the heavens; it is breathtaking and it is amazing to think it has been here in this place for so many centuries inspiring the faithful to proceed with the job! It is easy to fall in love with the beauty and the purpose of this structure. Sometimes some people do love great art for its own sake; although in this inspiring place there is no question of the message; it come through loud and clear. The men and women who created and serve this place are, one expects, all on the same mission, having the same vision; recognition of a personal connection in the service of the Highest One and Loving God; which has perhaps a similarity to the ancient Egyptian idea and phrase of knowledge; i.e., the Lord is One.
