Описание книги

Leaving Word is a brilliant literary mystery, a story of homicide; a comic and probing look at our need for stories, a satire about the fame, fortune, art and books, a love story, and one woman’s quest to find meaning in a chaotic world. Written by one of SA's finest literary fiction writers, the novel is a feast for those who love words.

‘It’s OK, you’re right. So how is Piet? How’s the project going?’

But she knew the answer to that. Piet had no interest in working for anyone. He had a wife with a rare skill who commanded stratospheric consulting fees, and it had suited him for a decade while he worked on his video documentary, Out of Balance. She had asked him about it regularly for years, wondered if it was a nod to the old Koyaanisqatsi film she got all inflamed about in her youth. It wasn’t. It was supposed to be an interview-based narrative that sought to say something about America through the eyes of its enraged and entrapped and encumbered. Not a bad concept. She doubted he had shot a single frame or spun even a thread of narrative purpose. She could have offered to help him, but his politics distressed her. She once asked him whether he was a Republican or Democrat. His answer was that voting was not his thing. That did it. An ordinary man. Humdrum. At best. But inoffensive, in a tolerable sort of way.
