‘Unfortunately, we live in a very sad, greedy manipulative world full of anger and blood. And we, as artists, can only use our art to express that anger and make our voice heard. We deserve a better world!’
My work is self-portraits, I use my imagination to create a dreamlike world, documenting feelings and emotions, inspired by my move to Australia, stories I’ve been told, people I have lost, and the confronting themes of refugee-inspired stories, mostly through a community of friends who have travelled by boat to Australia, harbouring dreams of a better life
A friend (and a Syrian refugee) once told me, ‘We are not alive, we are just surviving’, and this has always stayed with me
The process of putting together the artwork is just as important to the artist as the final result. My dream is to influence people, and to make them believe in themselves. The world can be changed, and we can be inspired by all beauty surrounding us
