Soldiers' Pay tells the story of a wounded aviator who returns home to a small town in Georgia after the end of the First World War. His company includes a veteran of the war, as well as a widow whose husband was killed during the conflict. Upon his return, he's followed by a train of mishaps. That's the pay he receives for taking part in the war. The story was written shortly after Faulkner's return from WWI where he served as a soldier in the Royal Canadian Air Force. William Faulkner ( 1897 –1962) was one of the most known and celebrated American writers. Two of his works, A Fable (1954) and The Reivers (1962), won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. One of his novels, The Sound and the Fury was mentioned sixth on its list of the 100 best English-language novels of the 20th century.
