The Scallywag stories were re-written for publication in The Mixer (John Long, London, 1927). In this collection the "Scallywag Three" no longer appear under this sobriquet, and two of the names are changed. Sam becomes "Anthony" (The Mixer) and Saul is renamed "Paul." The name of the third Scallywag, Sandy, remains unchanged. The following passage from the first story—"The Outwitting of Pony Nelson"—documents these name changes:

Passage from the original Sunday Post version

"Before I make any request of you, allow me to introduce myself. I won't tell you my surname, because that would not interest you. Familiar as it may be, you can call me Sam. My friend here," he indicated the man at the door, "is Saul. The third member of the troupe ... Sandy is the taxi-driver"

Same passage from The Mixer

"Before I make any request of you, allow me to introduce myself. I won't tell you my surname, because that would not interest you. Familiar as it may be, you can call me Anthony. Or you can call me The Mixer. My friend here is Paul. The third member of my company ... Sandy is the taxi-driver."

The first 10 stories were reprinted under the original "Scallywag" series title in 1929 in the weekly Topical Times (D.C. Thomson, London). The titles and dates of publication were:
