Part I
Rudyard Kipling. The Jungle Book

Оглавление

In the evening, when Father Wolf was preparing to search for prey, Jackal Tabaki appeared near the entrance to his cave. He told that that night Sher Khan the tiger was going to hunt in the same mountains. There was a chilly, malicious, prolonged growling of the tiger that had caught nothing. The Mother Wolf covered her four wolf-cubs with her big grey muzzle and she realized that that night the tiger was hunting not for a deer or bull, but for a human. But The Jungle Law forbade chasing humans without any necessity.

Then there was a noise near the cave, the Wolf was ready to jump, but he was amazed when he saw a very little human who could hardly stand on his feet. The little boy smiled and The Mother Wolf decided to save him from the tiger's claws. She accepted him into their family and called the boy Mowgli.
