In the face of a growing demand for training and consultation, in 2012, the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Diabetes und Technologie of the German Diabetes Association (AGDT) (Diabetes Technology Working Group) decided to develop a manufacturer-independent and neutral training and treatment program for patients and put together a suitable working group. Later, the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Pädiatrische Diabetologie (AGPD) (Pediatric Diabetology Working Group) joined the group as it had also been planning a CGM training course.

Under the leadership of Bernhard Gehr (Bad Heilbrunn Clinic), a working group was created comprising 26 diabetes advisors, diabetologists and psychologists with experience in CGM from outpatient and inpatient diabetes institutes Germany-wide.

The slides for the individual modules for SPECTRUM for adults were created under the leadership of Bernd Kulzer (Module 0), Bernhard Gehr, (Module 1), Ulrike Thurm (Module 2), Thorsten Siegmund (Module 3), Claudia Sahm (Modules 4, 5 and 6) and additional support by Eberhard Biermann, Sabine Carstensen (until Feb/2014), Guido Freckmann, Lutz Heinemann, Elke Kerth, Ralf Kolassa, Andreas Liebl, Rosalie Lohr, Berthold Maier, Kerstin Remus, Sandra Schlüter, Marcella Schulz-Braun and Marita Wernsing. Berthold Maier was responsible for harmonizing the slide drafts of the individual module working groups. The curriculum of the adult version was also refined to its final version by Berthold Maier.
