In vain in diverse entertainments

I’ve killed a lot of my life way!

If it would not destroy the manners,

I’d love the balls till recent day.

I love this youthful animation,

And cram, and shine and exaltation,

And dames’ attire, smart and proud,

And ladies’ legs, but am in doubt,

Since scarcely in the Russian lands

Three pairs of slender legs you’ll find.

Oh! How for long disturbed my mind

The image of this pair of legs.

And their seductive figuration

Till now disturbs imagination.
