When I’d got rid of public burden

And like Onegin left world’s vain,

I’d become to him a good fellow,

Because his features pleased my brain:

To dreams spontaneous devotion,

The oddity, which was unconscious,

And sharp and ice cold style of mind.

I was aggressive, he was quiet.

We both had learned the passions plays:

We both of life were pretty tired,

In both the flame in heart had died,

Both were expecting in young days

To be exposed to blind Fortune’s

And envy people’s evil tortures.
