Mrs. Laidlaw resumed her mending, and Eliza, curling herself up in an arm-chair, seized the opportunity to do nothing whatever. She was at the lethargic age, inclined to stoop and round her shoulders, not caring much how she looked, careless about clothes, having only two passions—Shakespeare and her brother Jimmie.
