ОглавлениеAcknowledgments
The acknowledgments for this book could easily be as long as the text. I have been so abundantly blessed, and there are so many people who have helped me grow in my short time here on this earth. First and foremost, I must give praise and all of the credit for anything worthwhile to Almighty God, the creator of all things. He has guided every step I have ever taken and every thought that I have ever produced, and to Him all praise is due. I eternally thank Him for H.E.M. and H.L.F., the two most influential figures in shaping me as a man.
I must acknowledge and thank the love and influence of my grandmother, Emma Roberson Harper (Madear), the matriarch of our family, the rock that we love and on whom we rely. Special thanks to Ann Nelson, my mother, nurturer, and friend. Donald Crawford, my father and twin, thanks for your spirit and DNA; we are much more alike than we would ever admit. Thanks to Andrew Nelson, Sr.; I appreciate you raising a son that you did not conceive when others would have run the other way. I extend a very special thanks to my beautiful wife, Dronda. I appreciate you showing me the other side of life and for all of your patience, love, and support. Carmen, thanks for giving me the four greatest gifts that a man could ever receive. Rashad, Larry, Jamilah, Shaheed, Ayanna, and Logan, the sun rises and sets on you. There is nothing that I would not do for you. Do not be afraid to take on the world and become what God created you to be. Angie, Lee, Donald, Brandon, and Derek (R.I.P), thanks for supporting your big brother. Cookie, Wendy, Billie, Peter, Birdie, Ricky, and Lori, thanks for supporting your nephew. Thanks to the entire Harper, Crawford, and Nelson families for your support and love. Special thanks to the Muhammads all over the planet. Thanks to the Gilliam/Hale family for accepting me into your family and giving me love and support.
Finally, I would like to give a special acknowledgement to my hometown of Flint, Michigan, the greatest place in the world for a young man to grow up. Wherever life takes me, I will be a Flintstone for life!
From a professional standpoint, I would like to thank the following people who have been powerful influences on me. Again, thank you, Mom, for being a great teacher and a great educational role model. I would like to express special appreciation to Dr. Richard DuFour for being a role model, a mentor, a friend, and one of the best educators this nation has ever produced. Becky DuFour and Robert Eaker, thank you for your guidance and willingness to share your wisdom with me. I would like to express appreciation to Jeff Jones, Donald “Stubby” McLean, and the entire Solution Tree staff. Dr. Freya Rivers, the first master teacher I ever observed, thank you for pushing and encouraging me, even when we did not agree. I would like to give a special acknowledgement to the Southfield, Michigan, Public Schools for your support and confidence, especially the very special staff, students, and parents at Levey Middle School, the greatest middle school on the planet. I would also like to acknowledge all of the educators at Michigan State University for your wisdom and guidance. Finally, I would like to thank Dr. Sharroky Hollie for being a bold advocate for underserved children and for being a friend and a great colleague.

I usually do not write acknowledgements for fear of forgetting someone. I am grateful to my family and support network for their patience and understanding about my passion for being an advocate for all underserved students, which keeps me from home regularly and consumed in one way or another while at home. I want to thank all of the educators who are responsive in their teaching and who show high will and high skill. Thank you for what you do and will continue to do on behalf of underserved students. You are making a difference! Lastly, I want to acknowledge Dr. Anthony Muhammad for his brilliance, courage, vision, generosity, humility, and invaluable contributions to schools and educators around the world.
