Nitrous Lines and Carburetor Supply Lines
ОглавлениеWhen it comes to both 1/8-inch-diameter N2O and fuel delivery lines going directly to the carburetor, user-friendly color coding of the accompanying fittings denotes the application. For example, the N2O supply line features a blue fitting, while the fuel line fittings are red.
As far as the actual lines themselves, some kits such as Nitrous Supply’s Powerstar Holley 350 Chevrolet single-stage nitrous kit, provide -4 AN-fitting-equipped, Teflon-lined flexible braided-stainless soft lines for fuel and nitrous carburetor supply. However, other manufacturers may choose to supply 1/8- to 3/16-inch-diameter hard lines, which feature a blue or red -4 AN fitting on one end and a yet-to-be-installed compression fitting on the other. These lines generally measure 8 to 10 inches in length. Here’s a tip: Use an old coat hanger or discarded piece of welding rod to mock up these lines first before bending the actual hard lines. This saves you a lot of time and headaches. Then you can use a proper tube bender to complete the job.
The N2O and fuel delivery lines go directly to the carburetor (or carburetors) in single-stage dual-carbureted applications; the user-friendly color coding of the accompanying fitting denotes the application. For example, the N2O supply line features a blue fitting while the fuel line fitting is red.
For safety reasons, N2O delivery lines are comprised of a Teflon core encased in braided stainless steel. Inside-diameter size varies, but most single-stage single-plate carbureted street/strip N2O kits use 1/8- to 3/16-inch-inside-diameter delivery line with a -4 AN fitting swaged on each end. Hose length also varies; most of these kits come with between 12 and 15 feet of it, depending on the particular application. Remember, braided stainless-steel lines may be flexible, impervious to the elements, and strong enough to ward off road debris, tars, and acid. Also, it cannot be kinked, or placed against sharp surfaces because then it frays, wears through, and ultimately fails.

The installer should always keep in mind that although a braided stainless-steel line may be flexible, is impervious to the elements, and is strong enough to ward off road debris, tars, and acid, it cannot be kinked or placed against sharp surfaces or it will fray, wear through, and ultimately fail. Most popular makes of cars feature pan rails, subframe connectors, factory-drilled holes, and pan plugs that can be used to safely route nitrous lines along the bottom of the chassis. Using rubber-encased crimp line connectors is another means of safely installing these lines.
