Patience

Patience isn’t something that

You can flip off and on

It can’t be gained with intellect

And can’t be forced with brawn

You can’t use complex formulas

In order to be calm

Logic doesn’t help that much

When folks aren’t in your palm

And muscle won’t change someone’s mind

When they refuse to hear

Instead of building up patience

You’re just instilling fear

So then the question begs to ask

“Just how does one keep cool?

How can I be more patient

Instead of act the fool?”

The answer comes in knowing that

Nothing is instantly

The cost is not with brains or brawn

But time that is the fee

I know that you will likely say,

“I haven’t got the time!”

Because you’re busy focused on

Your own successful climb

But that’s exactly where you’re wrong

So maybe it will aid

To think about it in this way

Of what your time is made

Time’s too big a concept for

People to comprehend

So break it down in smaller parts

To moments that append

You may not have the time to deal

With some kind of distress

But you can spare a moment to

Clean up a person’s mess

No one has the time to put up

With a person’s slip

But give a moment and you’ll see

Your patience start to grip

It may be hard to wait for someone

To get back to you

But give one moment and one more

The more that you accrue

Is directly related

To patience you amass

Benching moments just like weights

And building up your class

So next time someone does you wrong

Or tries to pass the buck

Don’t let yourself get all upset

And start to run amok

Take a moment from your stock

Of time you have to use

‘Cause that’s the price that patience costs

So have you paid your dues?
