foreword In our first eBook Quest to the West, my wife Patricia and I used photographic images and poetry to capture the stunning landscapes of the Badlands, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Bryce Canyon and Grand Canyon (south rim) national parks. This second eBook Arizona Rising is a photographic exploration of our trips to the canyonlands of Arizona in October/November of 2013 and April/May of 2014. Our first stop was Saguaro National Park, a short drive from Phoenix. Here we were captivated by the desert environment’s giant Saguaro Cactus and the many smaller cacti in the park’s Tucson Mountains western section. We also saw many birds of prey and other native animals. The next stop was Sedona, a city of approximately 10,000 in the northern Verdi Valley. Here, I captured images of Cathedral Rock and the sights aboard the Verdi railroad. We proceeded to Painted Desert, an area of desert badlands located mostly in the Navajo nation extending from the Grand Canyon National Park to Petrified Forest National Park. We spent a lovely half day viewing the multicolored buttes and mesas of the badlands from Tiponi, Kachina and Pintabo Points. Also in Navajo nation is the Canyon De Chelly National Monument. Our Navajo guide led us through the canyon floor’s Chelly and del Muerto Canyons. Later we drove along the rim of the Canyon, highlighted by Spider Rock.
