About the authors

Dr Gemma M. Carney is a social gerontologist based at the School of Social Sciences, Education and Social Work, Queen’s University Belfast. She is a member of the British Society of Gerontology executive committee and of the editorial board of Ageing & Society.

Dr Paul Nash is an Associate Professor in the Leonard Davis School of Gerontology at the University of Southern California. His research focuses on both ageism and HIV in ageing populations. This has informed work with the World Health Organization and the production of several White Paper reports.

Both authors won student-nominated teaching awards for their classes in gerontology and social policy in 2019.
