"Any problems?" asked Sergey politely.

"I took care of everything as it occurred, Colonel. Only one minor thing remains. This indicator lamp," he said, touching a lamp above one of the dials, "flickers occasionally. The meter is the core temperature indicator for Reactor-3, and the lamp should be dark as long as the core temperature is in the green. Only when there is danger of the core overheating should this lamp glow and the meter go into the red," explained Elovach as to a primary school student.

"Thank you, Elovach. Has the meter shown any rise in core temperature? Any variation in the temperature reading?" demanded Sergey, more strongly than he had intended.

"Ahh, no, Sir," he lied. In fact, he had not taken the time to monitor the meter associated with the flickering lamp. His only intention in bringing this to Sergey's attention was to show that he was always watchful, always in command. In Sergey’s experience, everyone lies, even one man lied about his dentist appointments for godssake, not wanting to appear to be someone who didn’t look after his teeth.
