My motivations

‘7.6 billion people now live in this unique world alone. They will inhabit the continents for as long as Mother Nature keeps providing the necessary strength and incentives. The sustainable development of nature’s forces is influenced by the actions of all people. And life is created together with others. There is no life without goods, and goods cannot be transported without humans. And goods need to be consumed if they are to be manufactured. This in turn causes pollutants. And it is this environmental contamination and the handling thereof around the world that drove me to write this paper.’

And I am now writing to you, dear friend, acquaintance and relative, to you, honoured government officials of nations great and small, to you, valued owners of businesses so committed to the economy. When it comes to climate change, I believe there has been enough moaning and ignoring. We can all also take action and help find a solution to geopolitical concerns, because

environmental and climate issues around the globe are becoming something of a 5th dimension in all units of measurement, requiring more attention than could ever be found in any concept of depth, width, length, height or time!

We already know how important this issue has become worldwide, yet we’re not doing enough with this knowledge; books, statistics, newspaper and research reports, discussion events and documentary films are emerging into the public sphere every day, burdening our conscience and making all of us around the world mouthpieces with good intentions, but without following up with action.

Public commons like air, sun, water and natural resources have unlimited availability, for they are not geared around the geographic borders of the UN member states; they are spread universally. Through their actions, all nations collectively influence whether and how long raw materials and reserves remain available. In our present-day understanding of the law, we have chosen to recognise national borders – no doubt as a result of an historic process. But this means that the distribution and allocation of the earth’s commons are far from being clarified at a geopolitical level. Which nations can legally access which natural resources, and who permanently own raw materials and energy sources, are questions that largely remain unanswered, and are discussed internationally? While separating and redistributing these resources between nations seems paradoxical based on our current understanding, it is actually feasible if done as an international alliance.

This essay, written in multiple languages, invites the people of every continent to help devise a workable solution. We need concrete measures establishing how we can take action to protect our planet, without placing the blame on others. I’m calling for bold dialogue, understanding and a high level of attention in all channels of communication – both written and verbal – as all the world’s nations engage in the conversation.

The amount of facts, or should I say misdoings, we hear about every day through the media, statistics and personal accounts is vast, and growing increasingly overwhelming. As a citizen of the world, I often feel powerless, perplexed and concerned, because I also feel responsible for correcting the way we treat the environment. I am part of a world history that has its troubles, and I can see a way out of them. Controlling global warming is not a utopian ideal, which is why I feel compelled to write this message.

Now I’ve heard, read and thought excessively about environmental and climate issues over the years. And I won’t stop asking questions and seeking answers. But I resist the regrettably often negative streams of news, and am instead countering them with my own thoughts. This is my specific proposal for how the climate movement can rescue our planet from the climate disaster.

The essay will not go into the concrete data and considerations on which my proposals are based, but I can assure readers that the facts and figures mentioned here are credible and have already been published in similar texts.
