Did I suspect?

I’ve asked myself that question a hundred times, and I could lie to myself and say that I did. But, no, if I’m being perfectly honest, I never suspected.

I trusted him.

I loved him.

Are they one and the same emotion? Trust and love? They are . . . or, at least, I think they are.

But once the doubt crept into my mind, then everything he did was suspect. From that moment on, I couldn’t believe a word out of his mouth.

And when I finally discovered the truth, I hated him.
