ОглавлениеThe quizzes
The book is divided into two parts, each with 250 quizzes. Half of the quizzes are based on themes ranging from biology to buildings, geography to golf, nature to numbers and a whole host of subjects in between. The rest of the quizzes are pot luck and contain a little bit of everything.
The quizzes in each part of the book are grouped together depending on how tricky we think they are. The easy ones come first, followed by medium and finally hard.
Easy
With a wide range of themes on offer in our easy section, you’re bound to find some questions and quizzes easy and others a bit harder. It’s not all straightforward in this section though: watch out for a few themes that aren’t quite as obvious as the title suggests. Quiz 251 marks the start of the second easy section.
Medium
You’ll get a good general knowledge workout when you tackle our medium quizzes. Classic themes that appeared in the easy section are repeated here, but you’ll most likely need some extra thinking time to complete the quizzes at this level. The second medium section starts at Quiz 401.
Hard
You’ll really need to work those little grey cells when you venture into our hard quiz section, so set aside plenty of time. An enthusiast’s knowledge would be a definite advantage on some of the themed quizzes. When you’ve toiled your way through the first section, the second hard section begins at Quiz 476.
The answers
Each quiz header tells you where the answers are printed. They’re mostly just a couple of pages away, for example the answers to Quiz 1 appear at the bottom of Quiz 3. The exceptions are the last two quizzes in each part of the book, which appear at the bottom of the first two quizzes in that part.
Running a quiz
When you’re running a quiz night, there’s a great sense of satisfaction to be had in doing a job well, and a little bit of effort beforehand will go a long way to making sure that your quiz goes without a hitch.
Plan: consider how many questions you want to ask in the time available, making sure you leave enough thinking time between questions. Once you’ve done that, pick a good range of subjects so that there’s something for everyone.
Rehearse: Go through all the questions you’re going to be asking beforehand, checking any potentially tricky pronunciations and making sure your timings work. Note down all the questions (notes look better in a quiz environment than reading from a book) and answers. Every effort has been made to ensure that all the answers in Collins Quiz Night are correct. Despite our best endeavours, mistakes may still appear. If you see an answer you’re not sure is right, or if you think there’s more than one possible answer, then do check.
Paper and writing implements: make sure you prepare enough sheets of paper for everyone to write on, including scrap paper, and have plenty of pens to hand for those who need them.
Prizes: everyone likes a prize. No matter how small, it’s best to have one on offer.
Good luck! We hope you enjoy Collins Quiz Night.
