Detroit MI

I check the weather forecast obsessively, worrying that all these delays will put our goal of fifty games in jeopardy. I search Twitter to see what information I can glean about who might be playing, only to see that the Tigers have cancelled yet more games.

Split doubleheader tomorrow—1:10 p.m. and 7:10 p.m. And, if you’re wondering, yes, tomorrow’s forecast looks equally as miserable. Baseball in April in Detroit. Fun, right? @jamesschmel (Tigers beat writer)

It’s not encouraging. When I open up the Detroit Free Press to see if they have any more information, I’m confronted with the headline, “Detroit Tigers (and MLB) have a weather problem. Blame climate change?” I pour another cup of coffee and read Shawn Windsor’s depressingly accurate lines: “[B]aseball, like many aspects of our past society, got some things wrong. What it got right was that it’s a game best played in warm, or at least relatively warm, weather.”
