What government positions did Marshall have before serving as chief justice?

He also served as a delegate to the Virginia state convention for ratification of the U.S. Constitution, minister to France in 1797–98, a U.S. representative in 1799–1800, and the secretary of state under President John Adams in 1800–1801.
