Introduction

“No more dogs!” was the definitive reply from George after the loss of a beautiful and incredibly intelligent buff-colored Cocker Spaniel that—as countless other pets—had truly become a part of our family. Even though his demise was immediately followed by the birth of our first grandchild, there was still an empty spot in our home and our hearts. So from April 2001 until January 2004, we were “petless.” At that time, God saw fit to make George eat his words by sending us this unorthodox specimen of a creature, whose unbridled manners, violent episodes, and special needs proved to be a lesson in patience, fortitude, and unconditional love. Such a series of events followed one right after the other that his is a story worth telling!
