Austrian driver Roland Ratzenberger dies in qualifying the day before. The black weekend claims the lives of two pilots at once and radically changes the approach to safety issues in motorsport.
The law in Italy requires an investigation into any fatal accident, whether it happened in everyday life or on the race track.
The cause of Ratzenberger’s accident is established fairly quickly. But the case does not reach the court. The investigation comes to the conclusion about the tragic combination of circumstances. But as for Senna, the proceedings initiated by the Italian justice eventually dragged on for several years.
Many of you probably know that there was a trial. However, the details of the case were not widely publicized, nor was the trial itself. Perhaps most of all they told you in Italy, whose judicial system was investigating.
