Clearing the AR-10
ОглавлениеFigure 1 – Safety/selector lever (on SAFE)
A.Ensure the rifle is on SAFE, refer to Figure 1. At all-times during the clearing, you must remain aware to not touch the trigger and keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction. If the safety selector will not rotate to SAFE the hammer may be in the uncocked position, pull the charging handle to the rear and release. Reattempt to place rifle of SAFE.
Figure 2 – Unlocking the magazine and removing the magazine
B.Remove the magazine by pressing the magazine catch in on the right side of the receiver/magazine well and pull the magazine downward from the weapon to release it, refer to Figure 2. Place the magazine down or in a pouch.
Figure 3 – Locking the bolt carrier to the rear
C.Extract the cartridge (if any) from the chamber. To lock the bolt open, pull the charging handle rearward, press the bottom of the bolt catch, and allow the bolt to move forward until the bolt catch stops it. Return the charging handle forward. Observe the round extracting and ejecting from the ejection port; do not attempt to retain the round, refer to Figure 3.
Figure 4 – Inspection of the chamber
D.Visually observe that there is no magazine in the rifle and no round in the chamber; physically check with your finger in low-light conditions as needed, refer to Figure 4.
NOTE- you must not reverse the steps listed above. If you clear and inspect the chamber prior to removing the magazine you will load another round into the chamber when you release the charging handle. Always check the safety position and remove the magazine prior to clearing the chamber.
