Defoamers are used to destroy macrofoam. An effective defoamer must be able to break the stability of a foam lamella. Various defoaming mechanisms discussed in the technical literature are usually explained in terms of a sequence of individual steps. For clarity each step is first considered, and the interaction of the individual mechanisms is explained later in this chapter.
