These are rubbing varnishes made for the automobile, carriage and wagon painters. They contain very little color. Painters often make their own color varnish by adding a few ounces of color to a gallon of rubbing varnish. The color is thinned a little with turpentine and strained, then it is thoroughly mixed into the varnish and the whole mixture is again strained.
