The stepmother also owned a jinn, which would answer all her questions. She would say

to the jinn, “Jinn, jinn, obey my call. Who is the fairest of them all?”

The jinn would reply, “O Lady, you are beautiful, fine and fair. To you there is no other

who does compare.”

Whenever the stepmother asked the jinn who the most beautiful was, he would always

give the same answer. She was so vain and so jealous that she couldn’t abide anyone being

more beautiful than her.

One day the stepmother said to the jinn, “Jinn, jinn, obey my call. Who is the fairest of

them all?”

But to her shock the jinn replied, “O Lady, you were once fair, ’tis true, but now Snow

White is fairer than you.”
