DR GERRY ALLEN is the author of nearly 300 scientific articles and 25 books. He has been Senior Curator in the Department of Ichthyology since 1974 and is an internationally recognised authority on the classification of coral reef fishes. He is also an accomplished underwater photographer who has dived extensively throughout the world’s tropics. Photo: Roger Steene

JILL RUSE was born in Western Australia and has nearly 25 years of experience with wildlife illustration. She has done a variety of freelance jobs for the WA Museum for the past 12 years. This is her first fish assignment, but hopefully not her last. Jill does not dive, but has an excellent eye for colours and natural shapes.
