Key lessons from sensory ecology

Оглавление

Sensory ecology is a multidisciplinary field of endeavour. It pieces together information from many sources gained through different techniques and relies a lot on comparisons between species. Often it is able to answer some specific questions about the behaviour of birds, but general principles are rather few. However, there are two key themes which shall be returned to a number of times in this book. These themes are the role of multiple information sources in the control of particular behaviours, and the reliance upon minimal information for the control of many actions. Examples of these themes will be discussed throughout the book, but it is worth introducing them in general terms now.
