Research Sources Mortality Registers
ОглавлениеMortality registers are normally of high quality in the industrialised countries, but there may be only one principal diagnosis registered and no contributing diagnoses. This is particularly troublesome when studying background factors and other possible associations in cases of child homicide. Under such circumstances, the researcher has no other recourse than to read each individual patient record to gather the necessary data. In several countries in the western world, special Child Death Review Teams check every child mortality case, cases where murder has been suspected or proven or cases where a proper diagnosis has not been reached [7].
Sweden is known for its ongoing population-based registry, which is possible due to a unique personal identification number used for all official purposes. As an example, national cohort studies on mortality and mental health outcomes among children formerly involved in the child welfare system have given a deeper understanding of the manifestations of childhood trauma and the impact of maltreatment [8].
