Mask-Based Radiosurgery

Оглавление

Patients that are treated with the mask-based technology will arrive at 06:00. If imaging is required, the patient goes directly for CT or MRI. Following imaging, the head cushion and mask will be custom made for each individual patient. The nurse stays with the patient during this process. Patients will have extensive teaching about the mask-making process during the preoperative visit to ensure they know what to expect. After the mask has set, the patient will have a cone-beam computed tomography. The radiosurgical team will finalize the Gamma Knife computer treatment plan. The nurse will ensure the patient has the call light and prepare the patient for the treatment. The nurse monitors patients throughout the treatment. It is very important for the nurse to visualize the patient and the monitor as the patient will not be able to speak with the mask in place. Following the treatment patients may take the mask with them if they have undergone a single-fraction procedure. If the patient is scheduled for multiple fractions, the mask and cushion will be labeled and stored for the remaining treatments.
