About the Editors

Alan Sinclair

Professor Alan J. Sinclair is an international expert in diabetes and clinical gerontology and established the Foundation for Diabetes Research in Older People at Diabetes Frail. He is a former professor of medicine at the University of Bedfordshire and former dean at the Bedfordshire & Hertfordshire Postgraduate Medical School. He has provided advice for the UK NICE organisation, British Geriatrics Society, Diabetes UK, ABCD, Joint British Diabetes Societies, Care Quality Commission (CQC), and UK Government Department of Health on matters relating to diabetes in older people. Dr Sinclair has been designated a WHO Expert in Diabetes and has for several years been a member of a World Expert Group on Frailty/Clinical Consortium on Healthy Ageing of the WHO. He was awarded the Presidential Medal of the IAGG in 2013 for services to older people and diabetes.

John Morley

Dr John E. Morley is a professor of internal medicine in the Division of Geriatric Medicine at the Saint Louis University School of Medicine (St Louis, Missouri, USA). He has been the principal investigator for the Missouri Illinois Gateway Geriatric Center or the Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program for the past 27 years. He helped create the Saint Louis University Health Resource Center, a student‐run free health clinic providing healthcare and social services for underserved and uninsured individuals. The clinic has grown to serve children and adults and developed many specialty clinics, such as women’s wellness and nutrition. Clinically, he focuses on diabetes, nutrition, frailty, and cognitive assessment. He is a sought‐after speaker nationally and internationally on multiple topics, including ’Aging Successfully’.

Bruno Vellas

Bruno Vellas is the chair of the Gérontopôle & Department of Geriatric Internal Medicine at the Toulouse University Hospital and is a member of INSERM UMR 1027. He is the founder of the Gérontopôle to develop innovation and research for older adults. He is an adjunct professor at the Department of Internal Medicine, University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA . He has been the chair of the WHO Collaborating Center for Frailty, Clinical Research, and Geriatric Training since September 2017. He is a IAGG past president, he is president of the Scientific Committee of the French National ‘Great Age’ and principal investigator of the INSPIRE program in the field of gerosciences.

Matteo Cesari

Matteo Cesari, MD, PhD is associate professor of geriatrics at the Università di Milano and head of the Geriatric Unit at the IRCCS Istituti Clinici Scientifici Maugeri (Milan, Italy). Dr Cesari previously worked at Wake Forest University (Winston Salem, North Carolina, USA), the University of Florida‐Institute on Aging (Gainesville, Florida, USA), and the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Toulouse (Toulouse, France). Dr Cesari is editor in chief of The Journal of Frailty & Aging and senior associate editor of the Journal of the American Medical Directors Association (JAMDA).

His research activities are focused on the frailty condition and strategies aimed at preventing the disabling cascade. Dr Cesari’s scientific projects have been funded by public agencies (including the US National Institute on Aging, the French Agence Nationale de Recherche, and the Italian Ministry of Health) as well as private institutions (e.g. the Swiss Bridge Foundation).

Dr Cesari has published more than 460 articles in peer‐reviewed scientific journals and is among the worldwide Highly Cited Researchers. Dr Cesari actively collaborates with the World Health Organization (WHO) on the themes of healthy ageing and integrated care for older persons. He is member of the WHO Clinical Consortium on Healthy Ageing.

Medha Munshi

Dr Medha Munshi is an associate professor of medicine at the Harvard Medical School and is the founding president of the International Geriatric Diabetes Society. She is a geriatrician and an endocrinologist. She practices primary care geriatrics at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and directs a unique Geriatric Diabetes Program that she developed at the Joslin Diabetes Center. The primary focus of Dr Munshi’s clinical research is to identify the challenges faced by older individuals with diabetes, to develop strategies to overcome these barriers, and to improve clinical and functional outcomes, including quality of life. Her current research also focuses on the use of technology in the management of older adults with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. She has co‐authored several sets of guidelines locally, nationally, and internationally on the management of older adults with diabetes. She has published many papers of original investigation on the subject of geriatric diabetes and has presented nationally and internationally on this topic.
