Track Those Habits

I often use my journal to help me to focus on personal development and move closer towards my goals. These goals can seem so far away – sometimes even unachievable – so I find it really beneficial to focus on the habits that will take me closer towards reaching them instead.

To help with this, I always keep a monthly habit tracker in my journal, and I often keep a mini weekly one, too. Before each new month begins, I take some time to reflect on how things have been progressing. I then set out the habits that I think will be useful for me to put in place or maintain over the coming weeks.

This feels much more manageable than just focusing on big goals and not being sure how to get there. For example, if I want to complete a really big project, I think about the habits that will help me to achieve that. This could be areas such as getting a good night’s sleep, staying focused, daily reading or research into my topic, eating healthily to improve my energy levels and staying well organized. I then write these out in my habit tracker and mark them off every evening, which helps me to see that I am making progress.

If you have just one key habit that you want to focus on, you could create a tracker for this, too. Trackers are a great way to keep you “on plan” and also add a lovely creative element to your journal pages.

I always review my habit trackers at the end of each week, to think about any changes that I need to make to my daily routine and structure. I have provided some examples for different ways that you could create a habit tracker of your own. If you are anything like me, adding something to your habit tracker each evening will really help to keep you motivated.
