Molly
ОглавлениеMolly stood at the office window of The Gull Cottage Motel, waiting. Outside was a bed of candytufts, petunias, and marigolds. Brilliant. Fresh. Healthy with blooms. Through the glass, she searched for dead flowers. Gardens were magical here in Seaside. They rarely produced weeds or wilted flowers. But those would come. Molly was sure of it. Dying gardens were the first sign. Death for all would follow.
It was nearly three o’clock as she watched Lulu leave her cabin. The woman saw her and waved a short, stiff gesture, and disappeared into cottage number three. Moments later, George, looking frail, pipe in hand, and Iva using her cane, were walking along the path to the designated cabin. Right behind were Ben, carrying an open can of cola, and Michael. Rosemary and her daughter, Halley Bee, followed.
This was the group Bernard had assembled. Superman’s team. And there was Bernard, himself, dressed in his dark suit, his jet-black hair waving in the mid-afternoon breeze. His eyes were bright as he disappeared into cottage number three.
This was his show, Molly knew. The greatest show in town. She had to believe this cast of vigilantes would succeed in their mission.
