It is considered unseemly these days to speak of American exceptionalism, yet how else can one describe our extraordinary success? We are the heirs of the most productive, prosperous, innovative, generous, and free society the earth has known, one that has transformed the world. This suggests that we should take particular care not to abandon the political insights and civic virtues that have made us, well, exceptional.
