Third and Finally, at the End of the Day, Will You Be Remembered as One Who Kept the Faith?

Оглавление

Some time ago, I visited a good friend. He is approaching ninety years of age, and, as he said it, he will soon be "ninety years young." He is one of the kindest and most gracious persons I have ever known. But at the same time, he has a tenacious sense of commitment: He has been totally committed to his wife for more than sixty years, totally committed to his family, totally committed to Christ and the church, and totally committed to living life to the full.

Word had come to me that this man's legs had given out and that he would not be able to walk anymore. I went out to minister to him, and he ministered to me. I was inspired by his response to his new challenge. When I arrived at his home, he was learning how to operate his new motorized wheelchair. He waved me over and said, "Look at this, Jim. For almost ninety years I have been able to walk around and enjoy the beauties and wonders of God's creation. Blessed be the name of the Lord. Now, they tell me I can't walk anymore. But look at this: I've got wheels! Blessed be the name of the Lord."

With that, he pushed that lever forward and started driving his chair around the room, laughing and waving and throwing kisses to everybody. That is total commitment—commitment with no strings attached, commitment with no conditions, commitment that keeps on believing even when times are tough, commitment that keeps the faith even when life knocks your legs out from under you.

Let me ask you something. Do you have a tenacious faith like that? At the end of the day, how will you be remembered? Will the world remember you as one who fought the good fight and finished the race and kept the faith?
