Chapter 2 A Love Affair

I. Pray and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you any areas in your life where love of money operates. Pray with focus and do not allow your mind to be distracted. God speaks to our minds. Pay close attention to what you hear or see in your mind as you pray. You can use your own words or the prayer below:

Lord Jesus, thank you for being with me and for revealing all things to me through your precious Holy Spirit. I ask that you forgive me of all my sins. Please forgive me if I have loved money and not obeyed you with my finances. I ask that you would reveal to me any areas in my life that I need to correct concerning my finances. Please reveal to me where love of money has influenced or guided me. Thank You, Lord. In Jesus Christ Name, Amen!

While you prayed, what thoughts came to your mind? What did you hear? Write down all the thoughts that come to your mind and anything you think God is speaking to you.

II. Are there any other areas in your life where you feel love of money exists? Any examples of things you have done (or did not do) and the root of it was love of money? If so, please note them here.

III. What commitment are you now making to God to get rid of the love of money from your life? What changes will you make? At the very least, start with the examples in numbers 1 and 2 and make a commitment to not repeat them in the future.

IV. Prayer of Freedom:

Lord Jesus, I thank You that freedom exist in You and only You. I ask now that You forgive me for following after money and giving it Your place in my heart. Please forgive me for every time that I placed money above You. I ask that You deliver me and set me free from the love of money and that You teach me how to keep money in its rightful place in my life. Help me to put You first and never dethrone You. In Jesus Mighty Name I pray, Amen.

V. Think about your current life and your dream life. Are there decisions you will need to make where your motive could be driven by money? Money is such an essential part of our lives and it is easy to make decisions solely based on how much money we gain or lose from that decision. We are more successful at doing the right thing when we prepare ourselves ahead of time. Think through decisions where you could be tempted to follow money about God and list them here. Then write and speak out loud how you will stop yourself from falling into that temptation.
