already overstayed

yet irrevocably loved

welcoming himself into our living room

every Saturday afternoon

breaking plans for an evening out

spending hours in the bath

regardless of our guidance

asking him to go

and he welcomes himself in

and we’re underprepared, yet satisfied

about to marinate in the delicious juices of relating

and correlating

our bodies

as they come together

a connection we wouldn’t usually get

if this friend actually respected boundaries

often arriving

as an interruption

we want to turn away at the door

we don’t, because

we know just how nourishing it is

for us to allow

this uninvited guest

to drop himself off

and empty his emotions

all over our floor
