What is the difference between cursive, lettering, and calligraphy? What types of pens are used for which? If you’ve been pondering these questions, you’re not alone! There’s a lot to learn, so let’s start with the basics.
Lettering encompasses any letter, word or phrase that is drawn by hand. It focuses on the construction of the letter forms through drawing.

The purpose of cursive is to write quickly without lifting the pen off of the page, resulting in letters that are connected together. Handwriting and cursive are not considered hand lettering because the letters are written, not drawn.
