Dear Reader,

I have long wanted to write about a heroine with a chronic condition. Having battled my own, and seeing others do the same, I know there are many responses to ongoing illness or disease. It’s easy to be overwhelmed by pain, fatigue or the frustration of not being able to accomplish things that are simple for others. Some days, I’m overwhelmed, too. But I’m always inspired by the people who battle year in and year out, keeping their doctor appointments and doing whatever they can to manage their condition and maintain the best health possible.

My heroine is a long way from there! But part of managing a chronic condition is figuring out how you will respond to it, and how big a role you will allow those health issues to play in your life. You do have choices and there are elements of chronic conditions you can control. Stay informed. Get lots of opinions. And don’t forget to reach around you for a little help sometimes. You will be surprised how many people reach back!
