We’ve just read about DisraeliDisraeli’s extension of the franchise (the right to vote) to the working classworking classes. Another reform was the legalization of trade unions. The Fabian SocietyFabian Society, founded by a group of influential socialists like the authors H.G. WellsWells, H.G. and George Bernard ShawShaw, George Bernard, believed that the whole community should own a country’s land, natural resources, and wealth. The growing powerpower of the workers led to the founding of the LabourLabour Party around the turn of the 20^th century with its goals of moderate socialismsocialism under the guidance of Parliament. Before we leave the 19^th century for good, we have to return to a topic that has been a leitmotif throughout British history.
