ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

It takes a lot of effort and research to do a book like this and no author can do it alone. I had a lot of help from a lot of people, many of whom I am probably overlooking even as I attempt to recognize the many valuable contributions that were provided. My friend Tom Dufur immediately comes to mind for his generous contribution of photographs and information. Tom is a consummate NHRA Super Comp drag racer with two K&N Super Eliminator Championships to his credit and an extraordinary knowledge of big-block Chevys as detailed in his CarTech book How to Build Killer Big-Block Chevy Engines. Many of Tom’s photos and a chart or two from his book are reprinted here. Many thanks, Tom.

David Basham of BMS Machine in San Bernardino, California, and Mike Lefevers of Mitech Racing also deserve thanks and recognition for providing parts to photograph and solid engine-builder knowledge to back up the text. The same must be said for John Kryos at the GM Media Archive who worked tirelessly to track down old factory photos. Chevrolet Performance and Nicky Fowler at Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center in Lubbock, Texas, provided GM performance parts photos and their generosity and input is enormously appreciated. A special thanks to David Swartz at vintagebigblocks.com for all the great used big-block parts photos, an invaluable resource for this book and for anyone seeking original parts for a restoration effort.

Special thanks also go to Blane Burnette, Holley; Ron Rotunno, Fel-Pro; Eric Blakely, Edelbrock; Jason De La O, Topping Events; Paul Lach, Classic Industries; Ted Hughes, Victor Reinz; Shane Pochon, Lunati; Chase Knight and Amy McCall, Crane Cams; Trent Goodwin, COMP Cams; Robert Priebe, Dart Machinery; and my friend Jeff Smith, Car Craft magazine. Special mention to Louie Hammel, a hardcore engine guy and long-time friend to many of us who, sadly, passed while this book was being written.

Finally, thanks of course to all loyal big-block guys wherever they are. If LSX engines could do it without power adders they would one day challenge the big dogs, but until then, big-blocks still rule. Just ask any muscle car guy.
