Camping and Caravanning

Оглавление

There is no longer such a thing as a charming patch of free grass for you to pitch your tent without getting into trouble. Ask the farmer in advance of pitching your tent in his field. He may well be pleased to help you, and might even point you in the direction of clean water or fresh produce. It also saves a lot of nervousness about getting rumbled in the morning. Otherwise you might just as well book into a campsite where there are washing facilities and toilets. Campsites are graded by VisitBritain from one- to five-star according to the standard and range of services – showers, toilets and convenience stores rank high in the ratings. The VisitBritain website (www.visit britain.co.uk) has a dedicated section devoted to campsites, most of which can be booked online. The National Trust also operates camping and caravan sites which it lists on www.nationaltrust.org.uk. The Caravan Club (t 0800 328 6635, www.caravanclub.co.uk) has 35 campsites in the Southwest (10 in Somerset, 15 in Devon and 10 in Cornwall) for use by both members and non-members, with grass and all-weather pitches, waste disposal points, showers and laundry facilities.
