 If your data contain nested levels, you should probably use multilevel modeling.

 Ignoring the levels in your data and simply using ordinary regression techniques requires you to violate important assumptions in regression theory.

 Multilevel modeling techniques allow you to better specify your model and achieve more accurate results.

 This book only considers cross-sectional nested data.

 Your models should be theory-driven and not motivated by the perceived need to add arbitrary complexity to your estimations.
