Just after midnight, a foal

born to the island;

upright now in the morning,

sure already of the earth.

Welcomed down here

into the soar and swoop of swallows,

the good June sun –

nestled by the windswept grass.

A star had fallen from the sky,

sand-white and silked about the edges;

half-surprised by his own safe landing,

all ready to begin becoming.
